The installation of a farmhouse sink requires you to carry and have support for the big sink. To achieve this, you need a friend or any other person to help so you can successfully install the sink.

You also need to get ready some very important tools needed to make the installation easier. You need tools such as a marker, cut-out template or cardboard, jigsaw, scissors, 3/4 inches plywood, table saw, construction adhesive, woodscrew, drill and 2 by 4 inches board.

1. Check the Cut-Out Template

The cut-out template serves as the instructional manual of any farmhouse sink as regards how it should be installed. Most times, the template comes as a picture of the frontal part of the sink which indicates the type of installation (Under-mounted, Flush Mounted or Top-mounted installation) that the sink is made and designed for.

If you cannot find or locate your cut-out template, place a piece of card on the front apron of the sink and cut the cardboard out by tracing the edge using a marker.

2. Remove Drawer

There is usually a false drawer face or flip-down drawers of your the previous or existing sink cabinet. Remove it to make available space for the farmhouse sink. For individuals with new apron, you don’t have anything to remove.

3. Prepare the Cabinet

Make a template out of your cardboard and position the template directly or centered on the front of the apron. Trace the apron face on to the wood above the cabinet doors.

For people with farmhouse sink which is as wide as the cabinet, there is a need to cut some part of the front, back and side of the cabinet to allow the sink. The cuttings must be done using a jigsaw.

If by any chance your cabinet is already prepared you can carry on installing the farmhouse in your existing cabinet.

4. Take Good Measurement

For a successful installation, measurement of the width and depth of the cabinet and that of the sink must be known. Measure the inside depth of sink and cut two 2-4 inch cardboard to the length using a table saw.

Measure the inside width of the cabinet also and deduct four 1 by 4 inch and cut one 2 by 4 cardboard to the length. Measure the depth of the sink and determine the height you want and mark it out on the cabinet.

5. Sink Ledge Board

Use a wood screw to screw the cardboard to the side of the cabinet and do so for four sides. Make use of 4 screws and let them be evenly spaced between themselves.

6. Prepare the platform that the Sink will sit on

With the figure gotten from the measurement of the widths and depths of the cabinet, deduct 1 by 4 inch from each figure. Use a table saw to cut out 3 by 4-inch plywood using the measurement and position the board on top of the ledge board earlier made.

Mark out space or opening for the plumbing and cut it out. The opening for the pipes drains the sink needs to be cut out before you try if fits.

7. Install the sitting platform of the Sink

Apply construction adhesive to the top of the ledger boards and place plywood on them before screwing through into the plywood to the ledger board using wood screws.
